“Opportunities and Success”
These days, when people in this world buy a house they have a lot to think about. The price, quality and condition of the house you choose are all very important, however the most important aspect is location, location, location. No matter what age you are location is key to a successful future. James J. Rawls talks about a land filled with opportunities and success known as California in his text “California: A People, A Place, A Dream”. In this text, Rawls writes “California is America’s own New World, a land of incredible enterprise, fortune and good luck” (Rawls, 23). I feel that living in California has brought my family and I good luck and overall success. And yet, all
people in California share a common pride that seems to be reflected in the neighborhoods throughout California. For Example, “My Latino Heart” Mario Garcia talks about having that common pride. Garcia explains, “The school where I teach has children from all over the world, including sons and daughters from the neighborhood I left behind,” (Garcia, 171). He talks about the diversity of the people who live in California. There are so many different ethnicities and cultures that bring many new ideas to the region and all trying to live the American dream. In the text, “California: A People, A Place, A Dream” Rawls states that, "The most important thing I learned was that I could do just about anything I wished, within reason" (Lopez, 16). Lopez means that opportunities can come from everywhere and that if you work hard enough that anything is possible. In the short story, “My Latino Heart” Garcia explains “My family moved again, this time to an even larger house with a study dominated by my father’s grand piano” (Garcia, 170).
