A Challenge

I have a challenge, a challenge for all of us. And I want you to listen. A few weeks ago we were blest with the opportunity to visit with a wonderful man named Dr. Neil Koenig. We had the opportunity to share with him ideas, our thoughts and our wishes about what do we want at Zion.

Everybody remember that? If you did not participate maybe you were at his presentation here, in the evening, if you didn’t here that you saw it perhaps in his written presentation, or you checked out a tape where you could listen to his talk. There has been plenty of opportunity to listen to the ideas you shared with him and he brought back to us, about what it is that is important to us at Zion.

Now the challenge, the challenge is ours to make those desires and those things happen. I printed off a couple things that came out of his talk but that came from you when you were visiting with him, because he was just parroting back to us as the congregation what all of you individually shared with him.

A worship service should have a sense of the sacred, a quiet time during communion, take the class out of sermons and provide inspirational messages. Build bridges between broken relationships, to relieve tension within the congregation. Need to build relationships that are deeper and more caring rather than just being friendly. The last one I really like, build a multigenerational congregation.

These come from you, but how do we get there? We get there by standing up and doing something. Since was here with us, I have had for me, very disturbing news, and that is that there are still people unhappy and wanting to go someplace else, well if this doesn’t happen I’m going to and if that happens I’m going to do and blah, blah, blah…

But what is that saying? It’s saying well, I told Dr K what I’d like to see but, I’m not ready, willing, or able or willing to stand up and make it happen. If I had something on this list, I couldn’t put it on the shoulders of Norm, or Stan or...
