Voting for a presidential candidate that supports the church on the issues of the world is important to me. As a young Christian, it is important to be well-informed in the 2008 presidential election. I am going to vote for Hillary Clinton based on her standpoint on the issues of domestic poverty and health care, immigration, and war in relation to Catholic Social Teachings.
On the issue of domestic poverty and health care, the church states that society has a moral obligation, including governmental action where necessary, to ensure opportunity, to meet basic human needs, and to pursue justice in economic life. Also, the Catholic community has consistently worked for access to affordable health care for all. Hillary Clinton supports the church on these issues because she believes in a universal health care that supports everyone. Her passion for healthcare is rooted in Jesus’ teachings, and that is an important point in my decision to vote.
Catholic Teaching has a tradition in defending the right to migrate especially because of the root causes of migration like poverty, injustice, religious tolerance, and armed conflicts. These root causes must be addressed so that migrants can remain in their homeland and support their families. Hillary Clinton’s standpoint on immigration supports the church’s teachings. She states that the anti-immigration bill would have criminalized Jesus Christ. Her idea of immigration reform includes the need of family reunification. This reform also includes the interest of Americans because she supports the idea of more border patrolling on the U.S. borders for the safety of Americans and hopefully to stop the dangers of illegal immigration. I am truly drawn to Hillary Clinton’s standpoint on immigration.
Finally, the church is obviously against the war in Iraq because of its strong standpoint on peace in the world. The church supports the goal of responsible transition aiming to reduce further...
