Categorizing Television

There are several shows one can chose from when deciding to watch television. Because of the different genres, television offers many scenarios for the best setting. One can base their viewing needs on time, mood, or general interest.
A situational comedy may be appropriate if one’s taking a short break. Comedies can help one to be more relaxed and less stressed quickly. An episode of “The Simpsons” is a good way to have satirical look on society, and an episode of “FRIENDS” may be able to reenact a humorous dialogue you had with a friend earlier. Whose Line Is It Anyway with Wayne Brady, a fun half hour comedy that does improvised skits and games, may be funnier knowing it was not rehearsed. One can subcategorize comedies into animated and non-animated.
One category of television helps us keep in touch with the world around us-- News. From our local news to Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update”, news plays an important part in keeping people up-to-date in current events. National nightly news shows reflect what the nation has been up to. A specific cause may even draw enough viewers to get its own news program such as SportsCenter for sports, Entertainment Tonight for celebrities or Hardball with Chris Matthews for politics. Television journalism can provide information to the American public of an inherent danger, show how the market’s done, or maybe just interview a celebrity.
If one enjoys sports, television is sure not to disappoint. Golf, baseball, football (professional and collegiate), basketball, NASCAR, and many other sports are found on almost any T.V. set. A sports team may even have their own network or there could be a special sports package so one can catch all of their favorite team’s games. The Super Bowl is always the most viewed show in the world.
