Canada As It Could Be
The society that we live in is in shambles. The focus of Canadian citizens is on themselves rather than on the society as a whole. Due to the rise of corporatism, material wealth and satisfaction of self-interest are at the heart of the Canadian values. This focus of self-interest is destructive to civilization, causing wars for an abundance of supplies. In order for Canada to live well in a society of abundance, Canada has to move in a counter-intuitive direction from the path that corporations have paved. Canada has the resources to change our ideology to one that supports the public good, with an emphasis of self-knowledge, which is in the best interest of Canadian citizens. To facilitate this societal change, every individual citizen must be involved in the process. These citizens will then be able to influence the government to do their part, which has the power to restructure the education system.
Corporatist ideology has allowed the people of Canada to live in a state of delusion. Canada can escape from this through the effort of every single individual. Each member of society must examine themselves to achieve self-knowledge. They must not be mere cogs in the machine that is run by corporations, but be critical of the machine. It is every citizen’s duty to examine themselves and those around them, and to refuse to mind their own business. But, in order to develop a nation that is run for the public good, sacrifices must be made. Though there is an abundance of supplies in the world, most of this abundance is being consumed by the more developed countries. People must be willing to sacrifice their own consumption for the good of humankind. They must change the way they live for the greater good which is their social responsibility as a self-aware citizen. Canadian citizens need to elect a government that is based on their values and beliefs, thus serving the public good.
