Part III: Reflection and Review

Write a one page essay in which you explore insights into your own critical thinking process gained through this exercise.
I use several steps in my ability to use critical thinking skills. To begin this exercise I cleared my mind of anything else going on. This enables me to be open minded. I have learned through this exercise that everyone has different meanings to the words that they use. There were questions that depended upon how you read into the statement as to how you would answer the question. There are different ideas to the meaning of words. The next step I use is to separate my emotions and to focus on the logical thinking. Trying to think what the average person would perceive. I tried not to use any experience I have had, but to simply rely upon logistics. I have also learned through this critical thinking exercise that it is also important to question what I read. If what has just been read doesn’t make sense then it is important to question it. Another important factor in becoming a critical thinker is to broaden your vocabulary so that when reading complex statements or articles you have a broader understanding. There is also a difference between statements that could possibly be true and that are true. I have also learned that there are five steps in the critical thinking process. The first step is comprehension. It is important to be able to comprehend what you have read, if by chance you don’t understand what you have read then you must do more research. The next step is to be able to apply your thoughts and knowledge to the process. Thirdly, you must analyze what you are thinking about. Sometimes it is beneficial to divide the items up in to categories and subcategories. Next, you organize, compose and construct your thoughts.
