The first situation I chose is: A the Second is B. You are routing eight delivery trucks delivering vegetables to restaurants on a busy Thursday morning in downtown Chicago and need to define the most efficient route for each truck. You are charged with deciding between purchasing land and building a corporate operations center or leasing an existing facility. For situation A, I chose the Process Model of Decision Making. In my opinion this would be the appropriate choice to get the best results. This model is the best choice for a situation which has long-term consequences. This model states that “It reinforces the role of management as decision maker in organizations of all types”. (Harrison.1993, p.32) The reliability for your deliveries will determine the future of your company. This is a company that serves the same type of clients and the communication between the industry leaders will impact the success of your company. This is why it is vital to build a reliable and trustworthy reputation for the food service industry. Determining the routes of eight trucks is a decision that takes some forethought and planning. First you will need a map. This will help you to strategize as to the highways that are best. This depends upon your knowledge of knowing what truck is coming from where and what truck needs to be delivered first. You must consider the time of the day as certain times in particular areas will be more congested with traffic then others. You also have to determine which deliveries are most urgent. One may need the delivery early as another just has to have the vegetables in time to prepare for the next day. Other models like the Rational do not consider time constraints and in which deliveries are primarily reliant upon. For situation B, I chose the Rational Model of Decision Making.
