Strategy formulation
The first step I would take to solve this problem would be creating corporate global code of conduct. I would make sure that the code goes into considerable details which would cover the following areas: relationships with employees, different business practices, competitive conduct, observance of local and international laws, business ethics and relationships with the public officials. The following code of conduct will aspire employees to adopt and follow to moral and legal practices of the country they are working in. The scenario is taking place in Bernalia, where the circumcision is considered to be legal and morally accepted, the U.S. chief doctor, with the respect to the legal and moral rights of his home country, we have to take specific guidelines in consideration.
The second step would be developing ethics and global strategy that would clarify that whatever decisions are made are not influenced in case by competition and concerns about money contributions. So if the doctor is to operate the patient, the factors such as competitive advantage and profit should not influence his decision.
The next step would be activity suspension statement. Thus, if there is a huge gap between ethical values of the home country and the host country, I would suggest to suspend particular activities in host country. Each country has freedom to have its own standards, but it doesn¡¦t mean that international firms should do business in that country.
And finally, in order to avoid further misunderstandings, our corporation should be constantly aware of the impacts on local as well as foreign societies that our corporation has. The most common way to accomplish this is to enforce ethical impact statements. Based on the information provided in these statements, our corporation would have the ability to change or just modify business practices in much correct, ethical direction.
