The Question is Buddhism
Why? It can be a simple question to answer with something to the affect of, “just because”. To most of us however, this question at some point in our lives, or at this very moment, has plagued us and consumed countless hours of our deepest thoughts. Many have lost sleep over this grouping of 3 random letters from the English alphabet because it is the question that seems impossible to concretely answer. This has been the cause of the birth for numerous religions across the globe and throughout history. Buddhism so happens to be one of these religions that has come to be over the years and has divided into different forms. Although the formation of different groups has divided the religion slightly in its views, a common goal and core essence has remained the same.
One of the variations or branches of Buddhism is known as Pure Land Buddhism. In Pure Land Buddhism, it is believed that every person on earth will be “saved” regardless of what they do throughout their lives. This type of Buddhism has become very popular because it is an easier form of Buddhism to do since there are no real expectations or rigorous practices you must do like in the other forms of Buddhism. A story, which Dorian pointed out in class is much like the stories to explain Hinduism (just for clarification and to answer how this came about), there is a story to explain how this came to be. The story states that long ago, Dharmakara vowed to save all of mankind from their suffering. The only ritual they have is to recite the Nembutsu, which is basically performed in order to thank Dharmakara for saving and allowing them entrance into the Pure Land. In Pure Land Buddhism, like in many other forms of Buddhism, the members are generally quite compassionate and understanding. They see the ugliness of the rest of the world like a grandmother or mother would see the ugliness of some behaviors of a baby or toddle. They would just say that the world...
