Texts that explore the relationship between humanity and nature will often explore the same values. This notion is present in Aldous Huxley’s BNW and Ridley Scott’s BR, which is projected by the use of irony and satire as techniques to provoke responders to question their set values in life. Point: Huxley paints the antagonism between human and the natural world as we are introduced to a world which is sterile and forbidding, it is a world in which viviparous birth and families no longer exist.
Technique: Emphasised through vivid imagery
Example: Where natural light finds only “glass and nickel and the bleakly shining porcelain of a laboratory”, “Listless and lifeless”. Babies are “hatched in decanting centres, conditioned by the World State to meet the requirements”

Point: Stability has become the ultimate ood at the expense of identity, with the drug “soma” being administered to citizens to raise a wall between the actual universe and their minds.
Example: This is seen through the World State Motto “Community, Identity and Stability”
Technique: Huxley satirises the totalitarian regimes of Post WWI, which denied people to have a qualitative relationship with nature.

Point: In the 1930’s, people’s values of the natural environment were diminishing
