Big Bang Theory

Informative Speech: The Big Bang Theory
How did the universe begin? How did matter come to exist? We all know that the universe exists, however, this knowledge alone has not satisfied mankind’s quest for further knowledge and understanding. Much time has been spent looking for some clues. Most of what we know is still only a speculation. The three topics I’d like to discuss are what exactly the Big Bang theory is, the first atoms, and the age of the universe. What exactly is the Big Bang theory? “Fifteen billion years ago a tremendous explosion started the expansion of the universe, known as the Big Bang.” (LaRocco and Rothstein, n.d.) The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond reasonable doubt that our universe did in fact have a beginning. Prior to that moment there was nothing; during and after that moment there was something; our universe. After its initial appearance it inflated (the “Big Bang”), expanded and cooled, going from very, very small and very, very hot, to the size and temperature of our current universe. (“Big Bang Theory- An Overview”, n.d.) The Big Bang theory was introduced in 1927, Georges LeMaitre showed that religion and science, or at least physics, did not have to be incompatible. In 1929, Edwin Hubble discovered the galaxies were moving away at high speeds. The Big Bang was not like an explosion of a bomb going off, but an explosion of space within itself. (“A Science Odyssey: People and Discoveries: Big Bang Theory is Introduced”, n.d.). Just as the Big Bang provided for the foundation of the universe, Hubble’s observations provided for the foundation of the Big Bang theory. What happened afterwards? In just fractions of the first second after creation, everything began to evolve into what we know today as the universe. Immediately after the Big Bang, the universe

    5. When did the Big Bang occur? Space and time were created in the Big Bang. At the beginning of the universe, the space was completely filled with matter. The matter was originally very hot and very dense and then expanded and cooled to eventually produce the stars and galaxies we see in the universe today.…

Very religious people say that nobody should believe in the Big Bang. It is theory and a theory is an idea. There is no proof of the explosion that began the world. There were no eye-witnesses to the big bang, whereas the seven days of creation where received by God and written down.…

The most basic description that is universally understood, would be, that matter is made of atoms. Now in today’s “enlightened” world, this would be too simple of a statement to make categorically. It becomes necessary for us to take into account the advances in atom science and be able to qualify our statement. We must further state, that though matter is made up of atoms, they are no longer the smallest particles of matter. Let us begin a journey through time to be able to appreciate our understanding, of how the concept of the “smallest particle of matter” has changed over time. The first modern day proponents of the atomic theory…

Moreover, when comparing different theories as the Big Bang with the creation of the earth stories from the different Native American tribes, many similarities and differences come to surface. Most of the Native American stories are based upon the believe of a higher power or a spiritual creator which originally created the world people live in. “Long, long ago, the Creator, the Great Chief Above, made the world. Then he made the animals and the birds and gave them their names.” Even though the Natives are spread out into different tribes, they all have different forms of some sort of a spiritual or magical creator, which developed the earth. The Big Bang Theory, unlike all the native American spiritual stories, is based on a proved hypothesis with concrete information and many explanations, which makes this story or theory an exact fact. “Scientists have discovered what Albert Einstein predicted…

For this assignment I watched an old episode of the sitcom Big Bang Theory in syndication on the TBS cable network; however, the show is still being produced and new episodes air weekly on CBS. The show was created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, and the target audience is ages 14-49 (Fandom TV, 2016). The episode I watched originally aired on February 24, 2011 and was from season 4, episode 17, “The Toast Derivation.” The main plot of this episode was that one of the main characters, Sheldon, came to the realization that he was not the center of their friend group dynamic, which consisted of Leonard (Sheldon’s roommate), Howard, and Rajesh (“Raj”). Leonard had recently started a new relationship with Raj’s sister, Priya, and Leonard decided…

The curiosity humans have in our origin and worth has led to a remarkable search for answers to big questions about history starting from the very beginning. Big history cosmology looks to answer some of the biggest questions humans have about the universe. In this paper, big history will be explored through the formation of the current U.S. one cent coin or more commonly referred to as a penny. The big bang theory is a scientific origin story, based on real evidence which explores history in thresholds from the big bang to present. Thresholds are time periods that break up history into sections and each one is marked by significant pivotal events and emerging properties. Each threshold is connected to the last and accumulated ingredients led…

The multiverse (or meta-universe, metaverse) is the hypothetical set of multiple possible universes (including the historical universe we consistently experience) that together comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, and energy as well as the physical laws and constants that describe them. The term was coined in 1895 by the American philosopher and psychologist William James.[1] The various universes within the multiverse are sometimes called parallel universes.…

The universe was created over 14 billion years ago, by an abrupt explosion called “The Big Bang”. Our solar as we know it is thought to be 4.5 billion years old. As for us humans, we have been roaming this earth for over millions of years. There have been two ways discovered by astronomers on the age of our universe. One way is by studying the stars, and the second way is by measuring the expansion of the universe.…

According to the scientific community, all the matter in the universe began in a very tiny, hot and compacted point. But what exactly caused this point to become the universe we know today? The “big bang” theory is the popular explanation for where the galaxies, stars and planets came from. At the moment of the big bang, the hot, compact point began expanding like a balloon, rather than an actual explosion like most people believe. As the point of matter expanded, it cooled, contracted and formed stars and galaxies, like our solar system and the Milky Way. This suggests that big bang explains the expansion of space itself, which in turn means everything contained within space is spreading apart from everything else (refer to diagram below).…
