Beowulf Evidence Sandwich Worksheet
This worksheet will help you outline your essay and incorporate evidence. Evidence such as examples and quotations illustrate your points, support your thesis, and convince your reader. They also make you sound smart, professional, and like you know what you are talking about. When you are done with this worksheet you will have an outline you can use for your essay with a complete conclusion you can copy into your final draft.
1. What essay prompt will you respond to?
a. Explain who would win in a fight, Beowulf or your favorite superhero (Batman, Spiderman, Ironman, Superman etc.). Why?
b. Explain what makes Beowulf a hero.
c. Explain why you would or wouldn’t like to hang out with Beowulf if he was alive today.

Example: Because of his superhuman strength, loyal sidekick Wiglaf, and magic sword Beowulf would easily defeat Spiderman.
3. What 3 pieces of evidence from the stories will you use? These can be quotes or simply examples.

Ex: In his old age Beowulf bravely fights the dragon, knowing he will probably die.
4. For each piece of evidence add an introductory sentence explaining what the evidence will tell the reader, and a follow-up sentence after the piece of evidence explaining how the evidence supports your thesis.
Example: While Spiderman may be incredibly fast and agile, he is alone where Beowulf can rely on his lieutenant, Wiglaf, for backup. – this sentence explains what the evidence will show me. When everyone else deserted Beowulf, Wiglaf bravely helped him fight the dragon, loyally risking a firey death to help his king. – The evidence itself Having Wiglaf to watch out for potential traps allows Beowulf to focus entirely on beating his opponent, which will help the king overcome Spidey’s speed and crush him. – This sentence ties the evidence back to my thesis statement.
