Intro: Australia’s system of government is founded in the liberal democratic tradition. Based on the values of religious tolerance, freedom of speech and association, and the rule of law, Australia’s institutions and practices of government reflect British and North American models. At the same time, they are uniquely Australian.

Key values: the citizens of Australia vote for their representatives.
The party that gets majority of Australia’s votes wins government.
Our government cannot make laws that take away any freedoms from the people based on our constitution.
We have elections every four years so if the people are unhappy with the leader we can vote them out.
The pm works in the best interest of the people if he wishes to maintain his position.
The opposition party still can have a say in the forming of laws.
If a prime minister is not doing his duty to Australia he can be dismissed by the governor general.

Political rights and freedoms:
every Australian over the age of 18 has the right to vote regardless of race and religion.
Australian citizens cannot be jailed for the political views.
All voting is kept confidential.
We have the right to freedom of speech.
We have the right to be informed of any bills that become law.

Opportunities for effectives by participation by citizens:
It mandatory for all citizens over the age of 18 to vote in state and federal elections.
This ensures that the winning party has won by the actual majority of votes and not by who could be bothered.
Citizens are allowed to gather and discuss political views and show their support of political parties through visual aids, lectures and pop culture.
Any changes made to the Australian constitution can only be made if a referendum is held where by the people of Australia vote.
