Abstract
Researches are needed in the developing countries to assess their integration of digital technologies into the curriculum implementation process. This study aimed at investigating the type of educational technology resources used by Social Studies teachers in Western Nigeria; their frequency of use, and the key variables that are related to their use. The survey used a sample of 200 Social Studies teachers who were randomly drawn from the secondary schools in Western Nigeria. The questionnaire used for the data collection had a reliability coefficient of 0.61. Both the descriptive and inferential statistics were used for the data analysis. The results showed that all the 200 subjects were non-users of educational technology. It was also found that the teachers’ use of educational technology was significantly related to their pre-service and in-service training, availability of computers in classroom, computer laboratory and regular electricity supply. The recommendations made include the need for greater emphasis on skills related to the use of educational technology resources in Social Studies teacher education programmes in
Nigerian Universities and Colleges of Education.
Introduction
At every level of education, educational technology is perceived as a vehicle for curriculum enhancement. Studies including Hadley & Sheingold, 1992; McDaniel, Melnerney & Armstrong, 1993; Hannafin & Saverye, 1993) have indicated that educational technology has the potential for enhancing student learning. Educational technology in this context refers to technology that is employed in the classroom for

The survey consisted of twenty-seven questions that asked teachers to rate their knowledge, frequency, and ability to use or integrate technology into the daily curriculum. Teachers were asked to rate themselves using a scale of 1-5, with 5 always representing the highest knowledge, ability, frequency, or agreeance. Upon evaluation of the data, it is the evident that the teachers at East Elementary possess a range of technology skills. The first section of the survey consisted of seven questions that included topics such as the ability to connect and use an LCD projector, take digital pictures, analyze data to create graphs in excel, and ability to create a functioning webpage. This section focused solely on teachers rating their own ability to use technology within the educational setting. After calculating the data the teachers’ average score per question was a 3.33. This shows that the teachers at East Elementary feel very confident in their ability to use educational technology. The second section of the survey focused solely on teachers’ frequency of technology use in the classroom. Question types were composed of how often do students use computers, create PowerPoints, type papers in word; take online assessments, use excel, or use content specific software to reinforce concepts. Section two was composed of thirteen questions in which the teachers had an average score of 2.54. The final section of the survey was composed of seven questions that asked teachers to rate how much they agree with the provided statements. For ages, classroom instruction has consisted of textbooks, many notebooks and a chalkboard. Pupils were required and responsible for four textbooks and notebooks. Now, the face of instruction has changed. Instruction has been transformed from the traditional framework of learning to a more abstract and advanced stage of learning. Because the world is advancing to greater depths of technology, teachers are responsible for cultivating, growing and maturing pupils into being fully capable function members of society. Teachers will foster and aid pupils into becoming well- knowledgeable 21st century citizens by integrating technology into the curriculum and instruction. Integrating new levels of technology to facilitate learning in the classroom will not only enhance classroom instruction, it will also produce members of society who has a prior knowledge of the various forms of technology and how they operate.…

During the course of history, we have witnessed how education is influenced by technology. I personally have the belief it can greatly improve the quality of education for every person. Modest technological advances a simple as a calculator have significantly increased the speed and accuracy of mathematical problems. This allows students to learn more of the curriculum in a shorter period of time. “In almost all cases, students taught with calculators (but tested without technology) had achievement scores for computation as high or higher than those taught without technology. With calculators, students had higher problem-solving scores, better attitudes toward mathematics, and better self-concepts of their own ability to do mathematics. Recent studies suggest that graphing calculators and computer symbolic algebra systems can be just as beneficial to student learning.” (Dunham, 1993) An added example is the employment of Smart Boards. Lately, I have seen how teachers are able to give presentations a more expeditious in interesting appeal for the student without using time erasing and spending money on whiteboard markers. These are just a few examples of how technology has affected the speed and quality of education; nevertheless, I will share how technology has personally played a role in school.…
