Managerial Communication compounds strategies and applications that center managers' role in workplace today. Teaching analytical strategic approach is essential as well as develops critical thinking concepts in organizational level. Identify stages and systemize steps to develop critical thinking skill have become relevant.
There are six stages introduced in the article "Nine strategies for everyday life" (Paul 2000). It clearly defines the characteristics in each category of stages. Paul has also given the suggestion that critical thinking development process is gradual. In Paul's theory, people waste precious time unaware. A flashback of what have been done today before day end can help one to recognize the strength and weakness thus can make improvement. Also, keeping an "intellectual journal" (Paul 2000) can help practicing and participating critical thinking. How can critical thinker help when aiming in resolve dilemma for company or a team conflict within the organization? It depends on how one interprets and responds the problem.
Self-motivation and self-discipline are fundamental key factors too. Theories and statistics can only help introducing the concept, but self-awareness is the momentum to keep it rolling. Aware of strength and weakness of the accounts payable department is crucial. Employees will need to make their own judgment on how and when to make proper response or payment in promptly manner to satisfy both parties. Giving training and sending employees for seminars are good starting, but providing a follow up with proper encouragement and guidance would increase the successful rate.
Explanations and examples are given by Paul as a guide to develop critical thinker. As he introduced in his Strategy Seven, "Redefine the Way You See Things", he suggests that people "turning negatives into positives, dead-ends into new beginnings, and mistakes into opportunities to learn" (Paul 2000).
