Who I Am

I am twenty years old. I live with my mother, father, and younger brother who is eighteen years old. I graduated from Irmo High School in 2006. Since high school I started going to Midlands Technical College in the fall of 2006, where I started taking classes for my pre-nursing certificate, which I completed in the spring of 2007. I had to get my pre-nursing certificate in order to get on the two year waiting list for the nursing program. After getting my nursing certificate, I applied for my schools merit program, which allows students with good grades the chance to skip the waiting list and go straight into the nursing program immediately. Fortunately, I was accepted in the merit program and started the program in the Spring of 2008. I have wanted to become a nurse since high school when I took a Health Science class that allowed me the opportunity to learn about all of the different types of medical professions there are, and what they do. The Health Science class taught me a lot about nurses, there duties, and it gave me the opportunity to shadow nurses at the hospital, which was really cool. Afterwards, I new I wanted to be a nurse so I started looking for school that had good nursing programs. I found out through research that Midlands Technical College has one of the best and hardest nursing programs in the state. So I decided that was where I wanted to go. Since I have started the nursing program I have realized fellow nurses were right when they said Midlands nursing program is tuff. I studied over 20 hours a week, it was unbelievable. Thankfully, I did not have classes on Fridays so I was able to work. I work at a doctor’s office in Columbia, and I have worked there since 2006. I have many different job duties depending on which department needs help. When the front desk needs me I will check patients in and out, make appointments over the phone, file charts and dictation, and get charts prepared for clinic. However, when the billing...
