Alpha Phi Alpha Mission Statement
My desire to be an Alpha man strongly revolves around the fraternity’s aims, mission statement, and vision. These principles and values of Alpha are something that resonates deeply with how I try to develop myself as a man within an academic setting as well the local community. The fraternity itself set the standard for which other Black Greek fraternities and sororities would follow as being the first inter-collegiate fraternal organization established for African-Americans with the sole purpose of mutual uplift and support. There has never been a time when Alpha Phi Alpha fell short of producing men whose leadership and service to the community made an impact on the lives of African-Americans especially the youth. This is why Alpha Phi Alpha stood out to me in a …show more content…
Although Henry Colson Jackson passed in 1997, I can honestly say he’s moved me through his legacy of work and service that he left behind at Virginia state university. Henry Jackson was one of the members to charter the Beta Gamma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha in 1926 and he also founded the historic prestigious organization named the Betterment of Brothers and Sisters organization (BBS). I learned a lot about Henry through joining BBS and I’ve come to discover that he was a guy of respect and esteem. Just looking at how involved BBS was on campus and how most of the members of BBS have held high campus positions and represented themselves in a businesslike manner I knew from there on that I wanted to join something of that stature to be a part of something that was created by Henry Colson Jackson. He well renowned for his leadership, service, and determination to transform the school campus for the better. When I joined the organization BBS I had so much ambition and drive that I was elected to the executive board and served as treasurer. BBS has changed my life for the better and I have Henry Colson Jackson to thank for

“This is a diverse community that is Christ-centered, people-focused, student-oriented, quality-driven, and future-directed”. Out of the above Mission Statement, student-oriented sticks out the most to me. When I think of college I immediately think of learning, experiencing new things, maturing, getting involved, and making new and everlasting friendships. To do these things students need to be involved and support other students, to come together and encourage each other while we all learn to spread our wings and fly.…

Last summer, I endeavored a life changing experience. American Legion Buckeye Boys State is a leadership program. It is the best Boys State program in the nation. On top of this, it is among the top programs for leadership, growth, and is a meeting of the greatest minds of Ohio, and by proxy, of the nation. But it’s so much more than that. From Day One, the minute you step off the bus, it instantly becomes an incredible experience. Everyone, people who have never even met before, are shaking everyone else’s hands, introducing themselves, and campaigning for positions before anyone has even dropped their luggage off. It was breathtaking, truly, and it made me realize that I too had to step up. Naturally, I did just that. I started meeting people,…

While growing up in the inner city, it seemed like every day was a fight for survival. It is difficult for me to recall any happy memories; however if I have learned one thing while being on the streets of Paterson, New Jersey, it is that friendship is essential to the soul. It is sad to see my brothers and sisters being killed in the streets over ignorance and smart minded people wasting their talent and succumbed to the drug infested streets. Being alone, it hard to change mindsets of others; however being in a group with such strong role models and caring for life are an unbelievable sight. I want to be part of Omega Psi Phi because I want to be a role model to children who no matter what their living conditions consist of, they are able…

This organization has become an important part of my life because it has shaped me into the leader I am today. I began in the organization as a member and participant in competitive events, I have now worked my way up to being my chapter’s President and the Missouri State First Vice President. My leadership experience in FCCLA, especially my experience as a member of the Missouri State…

According to the FFA mission statement FFA provides members with personal growth, career success, and premier leadership. During the year of 1928 the largest youth organization was found. This organization is known as FFA and contains over half a million youth members around the nation. However some members are financially unstable to pay the membership fee of seventeen dollars; to become a year long member in FFA. This is why school districts should provide money for those who cannot afford the membership dues. Students who become interested in FFA should not be held back due to financial issues. A simple 17 dollars can guide a student into a program where they find their careers and develop leadership skills that will last a lifetime.…

During my time as an undergraduate student, I was an active member of the Phi Sigma Pi Honors Society and acted as a leader in the Pitt student community. I was an active voice for the fraternity and served on the scholarship committee, the career and professional development committee, and the service committee. As a member of the Phi Sigma Pi, I was able to give back to the Pittsburgh community by volunteering at the humane society, participating in service events on campus, helping with philanthropy events, as well as volunteering at Jubilee Soup Kitchen. A second leadership role that I held on campus was that of a peer educator at the Stress Free Zone. This leadership role provided me with the opportunity to promote the health and wellbeing of students on campus by advocating the space, educating students on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Techniques (MBSR) and working with my team of other fellow peer educators on outreach events and other promotional…

The mission of the Honors College is something that represents the environment I enjoy and thrive in. Firstly, the community surrounding education and conversation is something unique and truly mesmerizing. I know that I am in a good place when my peers thoroughly enjoy discussing a multitude of topics, regardless of who they are, what they’re studying, and where they’ve come from. The Honors College is one of these places that gives everyone a voice and the ability to generate open discussions on various topics. Also, the undergraduate research that the Honors College provides will enable me to continue connecting with professors and delve into my passions within my major. Mr. Bill Robinson, an Associate Professor of Management in the Krannert School, is an example of a professor that I see myself bonding with over our interest in new product development. The opportunities to learn alongside professors and seek extra help when needed, is beneficial to learning wholeheartedly. Thirdly, the value student leadership is a wonderful aspect of the Honors College. As Claire Lee, a current Honors College student said in the informational video about leadership development within the program, “student leadership combines the academics at Purdue with the real world experience.” The ability to apply knowledge…

I learned very soon after starting my freshmen year at Hixson High School that this was a school that wants to see achievers and believers walk across the stage at graduation and enter into the world around. Through the teachers encouraging me to push myself to do the very best I could possibly due, the multiple organizations and clubs available, and this inner spark that drives me to achieve greatness, I quickly became involved around the school. I am currently the National Honor Society Secretary, Senior Council Representative, Nation Beta Club Member, Hixson Mat Cat Treasurer, and one of the founding members of Hixson Girl Talk. Without these opportunities offered, I would not have built relationships with fellow classmen, teachers, faculty and staff, and most importantly, members of the Hixson community through volunteer work, team bonding, and a shared desire to continue to improve the area.…
