Deciding whether to drink is a personal decision that we each eventually have to make. Weather this decision be made in college at a party or a toast being made on your weeding night we are all faced with the choice. Drinking is a nurture that I believe begins when you are young. Children who were brought up and raised around Alcohol are more prone to become a user. We all have that one person in the family that drinks way more than usual. According to research by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, adolescents who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age 21. It has been estimated that over three million teenagers are out-and-out alcoholics. Community support plays a major role in teen drinking. I come from a place where the stores are no longer concerned weather you are of age anymore; they no longer check ID and will sell Alcohol to almost the youngest child.
Alcohol is one of the most used and misused drugs known to man. Alcohol is not viewed as a drug because of the simple fact that it is legal and accepted by society. People fail to realize that this drug is life threatening that be harmful if you are a victim, an innocent by stander or an unborn child. Many victims of Alcoholism suffer from chronic brain, heart, and kidney damage as well as other long-term body compilations. According to drunk driving statistics from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimated 17,419 people died in the year 2002 in alcohol-related traffic crashes, an average of one every 30 minutes. Many innocent people are prime victims to the crime of drunk driving. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for young people from ages 15 to 20. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a case that can only be prevented by the mother her self.
