Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder that typically presents itself during childhood, and is characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity, as well as forgetfulness, poor impulse control or impulsivity, and distractibility. ADHD is currently considered to be a persistent and chronic condition for which no medical cure is available. Methods of treatment usually involve some combination of medications, behavior modifications, life style changes, and counseling. There is no way to get rid of it indefinitely but only to control it. Such medicines include Ritalin and Strattera.
Etiology is the study of the causes of a certain something, in this case a disorder. There are no exact and/or definite causes of ADHD but inherited genetic factors are likely responsible. Ongoing research is focused on identifying genes that cause a person to be susceptible to ADHD. Research shows that a mother's use of cigarettes, alcohol, or other drugs during pregnancy may increase the risk for ADHD. Some studies suggest that exposure to lead may cause symptoms associated with ADHD.
A patient with this would be someone that in school would act wild and/or inattentive and fool around during class/working times of the day. The student wouldn’t be dumber just lack of focus and very forgetful. This would be a daily life of a 16 year old boy who had ADHD. He would wake up very late due to not being able to fall asleep at night because of lack of focusing and sitting still while trying to sleep. All day this boy would be so impatient for everything to happen. He gets to school and in each class he would either day dream all class period or not sit still and couldn’t pay attention and not copy notes or follow along what the rest of the class would be doing. When lunch would come along, he would be impatient waiting in line, and depending on the medication, could have a tiny appetite. The rest of the day...
