History is not just a collection of dates and names, it is a story. It is a story that is lived by real people like you and me. Sometimes this is forgotten. Author Ann Rinaldi explores America's history and the people who lived in those times. Through her writing, she has opened a new door from which to view history.
Ann Rinaldi is an admirable author whose novels have shaped the way her readers view history. This will become clear through an examination of the author's history, the story's history, and the author's writing in her book: Ride into Morning.
Rinaldi's own background is very influential in her writing. Ann was born August 27, 1934 to Michael and Marcella Feis in New York City. Rinaldi's mother died after she was born and Ann was sent to live with her aunt and uncle in Brooklyn. She lived with her cousins: the happiest part of her life, but her father came to take her to live with him and her stepmother in New Jersey. Ann's father was a newspaper manager. The author states "he did everything he could to prevent me [Ann Rinaldi] from becoming a writer." Her father did not allow her to attend college, so after graduating from high school, she became a secretary.
When 1960 rolled around, Ann married Ron Rinaldi and left the business world. After the birth of her two children, Ann decided that she wanted to be a novelist. She wrote four books; however she thought they were terrible and decided not to publish them. In 1969 she was writing for The Tretonian and learned how to spot a good story. She finished her first short story in 1979 - "Term Paper" - which started her on her writing career.
Upon finishing the sequel to her first story, she became drawn to the study of American history. This was because her son, Ron, had become involved in Revolutionary War reenactments. She became so interested that she participated in some reenactments and visited many historical sites. That was when she decided that she was going to...
