The War in Iraq

Most Americans believe that the war in Iraq is unwarranted, especially given the current direction of the war on terror.

Casualties on both sides are escalating; civilians, soldiers and insurgents are dying at a phenomenon rate. Despite growing public dissatisfaction in the U.S., the government has no foreseeable plans to withdraw.

This research will explore/expose/explain the reasons for the invasion and occupation of Iraq by specifically looking at the U.S. interests in the region, the history of Western Colonization in the Middle East and the frenzied rush for oil by the first World.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY
The Iraq war, sometimes called The Second Gulf War, commonly referred to in the U.S. as Operation Iraqi Freedom is an ongoing conflict which began with a United States-led coalition on March 20, 2003.
The war began on March 20, 2003 when a largely British and American force supported by small contingents from Australia, Denmark and Poland invaded Iraq. The invasion soon led to the defeat and flight of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. The U.S.-led coalition occupied Iraq and attempted to establish a new democratic government; however it failed to restore order in Iraq. The unrest led to asymmetric warfare with the Iraqi insurgency, civil war between Sunnis and Shiites and al-Qaeda...
