Abraham Lincoln is known as the greatest president by citizens of the United States. Abraham Lincoln had the most influence affecting slavery and preserving the Unionduring his presidency. I will show you this through Abraham Lincoln’s background information, accomplishments, and politics/presidency.
Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 to Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. He was born in a one-roomed cabin on a farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky. (Stevenson 1) When Abraham was 9 years old, his mother died of Brucellosis, milk disease. (Stevenson 2) After his mother died of the illness, his father married Sarah Bush Tomas Lincoln, who became Lincoln’s stepmother. (Biography Channel 1) As a child, Lincolnwas self-educated and enjoyed reading. Once Lincolnwas past the age of 21, he could leave his father and stepfather to work and live on his own. When Lincolnwas 23 years old and on his own, he volunteered to help a militia fight Chief Black Hawk. (Stevenson 3) After Lincoln became eligible to run for Legislature and Congress, he started becoming involved in government. Lincolnwas elected for two terms of Presidency during his lifetime. While in his second term of presidency, Lincolnwas shot at Ford’s Theater by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. (Bruns 122) The next day, April 15, 1865, Abraham Lincoln died at 7:22 a.m. (Stevenson 10)
During Lincoln’s life, he completed many of his goals and had many accomplishments. Just as Lincolnbegan being involved in government, he helped served in the Black Hawk Militia of 1862. While Abraham was serving in the militia, he was also occupied with trying for Illinois Legislature. During the election for the legislature, Lincolnwas not able to win the spot.
