The article ‘How to succeed in University’ (Bien 2007) gives
important steps and tips for me to succeed in gaining higher
education. There are four important steps such as do not
procrastinate, think positively about learning, develop a wider
understanding and establish as many friendships as I can (Bien
2007). As my first time stepping into the RMIT university learning
environment, the suggestions in this article are very useful and vital to
me. The teaching and learning ways in high school are much different
from universities’ style. In high school, teachers usually fed me with
knowledge and always tried to show me the way to achieve goals, with
detailed instructions. In university, lectures won’t do the same way,
they will give me the knowledge according to my courses but how I’ll
handle and receive that knowledge is depends on me. That means I
will need to do the most parts of my learning. I have only just
graduated from high school and entered RMIT so this learning style is
really new for me. However, after reading this article, I can see a
clearer picture of how to succeed at RMIT.
Make small investment in your studies everyday and you will
receive lifetime returns. Studying makes me a better person, a better
human being, I get my own benefits from my studying, not others.
Realizing the importance of education and how it will affect my life, I
was able to develop a positive attitude towards my education. “You
must develop a wider understanding of learning and knowledge” (Bien
2007). I have followed that advice and it really helped me...
