A GOOD MAN IS HARD TO FIND
The story starts out with a family of six who live in Atlanta, Georgia planning to go on a vacation trip to Florida. The story focuses more on the grandmother who complains that she would rather go to Tennessee than Florida for vacation. She tries everything to change there mind about the trip. She starts to mention that there is a killer on the loose in Florida who goes by the name The Misfit. Then she turns around and tells them that the children have already been to Florida to many times. Throughout her arguments she does not change their minds. The next morning the grandmother is the first one ready and in the car with her pet cat by the name of Pitty Sing. They are both are accompanied by her son Bailey, his wife, and their children June Star, John Wesley, and the baby.
As the story goes on the family comes to a restaurant for lunch that is owned by a fat man named Red Sammy Butts. While in the restaurant the grandmother starts chatting with the owner and his wife about the escaped murderer known as the Misfit. This makes the second time that the grandmother starts up a conversation about the Misfit in the story. As the two keep talking (Grandmother and Red Sam) the title of the story appears. “A good man is hard to find,” Red Sammy says. Back on the road Grandmother makes another attempt to get her way and see what she wants to see instead of going straight to there destination. She tells the children about an old secret passageway that is on a plantation that she recalls from her childhood. The children get so excited that they throw temper tantrums to force the father to turn another direction headed towards a dirt road. The Family has a misfortune when they all of a sudden get into a horrible wreck. The accident throws the mother and the children out of the car. Everyone appeared to be fine except for the mother who has a cut down her face and a broken shoulder.
