For this assignment I chose to watch Troy. Troy is about the war between Sparta and Troy.

1972 More Still On The Trojan Horse. The Classical Journal: 327-330

In the film horses were used to pull chariots, which were used mainly by people in high standing such as the princes. I wanted to know if there was actually any evidence that horses were domesticated then. This article says that clay tablets were found near the site of the city of Troy that dealt with the training of horses. The Kikkuli Text is the most recognized and is named for the horse trainer who gives the advice on how to train horses. Archaeological evidence proves that horses were domesticated at this time.

While I was watching this film, I noticed that it was never mentioned when this war took place, so I was curious about the approximate date. In this article it states that pottery was found at the site of Troy, which indicates that Troy came to an end during the first seventy years of the thirteenth century. According to archaeological evidence, the Trojan War took place around 1250.

In the film, the Spartans built a giant Trojan horse so they could fit some of their men in it. They left it for the Trojans as a gift so they could get inside the walls of Troy, and ultimately win the Trojan War. I wanted to know if the Spartans did actually build a horse to get inside the walls of Troy, so I read this article. This article says there is no archaeological evidence proving that the Spartans gained access to Troy by a giant wooden horse.
