“Things I am willing to die for”

The three things I am willing to die for are my family, my friends and my beliefs. My family is one of the most important things to me in the whole world. I would put my life on the line for each and every one of them any number of times. I owe it to them, especially my parents, who have given me 17 years of love and care and my brothers, for whom, despite their ‘annoyingness’, I would sacrifice a few years of my life in exchange for theirs.

Next would be my friends (my true friends), I trust them with a lot of things, things that even I don’t share with my family. They are the people who I can turn to whenever family isn’t an option. They are the people who make my life fun and meaningful. They signify another wholly different part of me, and I would forfeit my life for them.

Dying for my beliefs is different also. I am not sacrificing myself to give another person life. Instead, I am dying for something intangible; something that people may or may not see. I will be dying to make them see, if ever I do die for that. The things that I believe are worth dying for are love, peace and freedom. Many times in history people die for these things. It is because these things are worth believing in. These things are worth dying for.

I do not say these things lightly. I really will put down my life for these three things. In fact, I have already done so for two of the three. I have swum to the farther parts of the ocean to save my drowning younger brother. I have kept my friend, who was also drowning, afloat for over 30 minutes, risking my own life for him. I do not pretend to be a hero, but I know that whenever the time comes, I am willing to do all it takes to preserve that which I hold most dear.
