06 - Assignment 1_6

When I got into a terrible car accident last year, I thought it was the worse time in my life. Little did I realize that this experience would help me grow, and even inspire me – not despite the horrific nature of the event, but because of what happened. Most of the time when people go through huge things in life whether it’s good or bad, the outcome is them learning something from whatever happened. My accident has changed my life for the better and honestly I don’t regret having to go through that, I learned a lot from my accident, and it had huge impact on the way I viewed my life.

I and, two other friends were on our way to a party in Trenton, NJ, we were coming from the Bronx so it was going to take us about 2 hours to get there. My friend Jade was driving, I was in the passenger seat and Mikey was in the back seat. We were on the New Jersey turnpike and, we were looking for an exit that had a rest stop because Jades GPS device made us take the wrong turn and, we were kind of lost. While we were driving I saw a sign saying that there was a rest stop coming up in 5 miles, I took off my seat belt really fast because I wanted to reach over to the back to get something out my bag and, Mikey had taken a nap. In the mist of doing that Jade was switching lanes so she can already be on the side where you exit so she wouldn’t have trouble doing so when we got closer. She didn’t see a car getting on the turnpike so she didn’t bother to stop, the car ended up hitting my side of the car really hard forcing the car to turn on its side. When I woke up from blacking out, I was stretched over my friend Jade who was driving and my body was half way out of her window, Jade was still passed out and, Mikey was laid out in the backseat. It all happened so fast, I couldn’t even try to prepare for it.

I woke up in a hospital realizing I have all these machines around me, I had IV’s in both arms and I was in ICU. The doctors walked in to check if I was finally up, when he realized he immediately started to tell me what was going on with me. I had 4 fractured ribs, 10 stables in my head due to me cracking my head open, and a broken leg. Mikey didn’t really suffer too much, he had a couple of stitches on his, hand and arms. He also broke his wrist. Jade and I had it the worse, she also cracked her head open, broke two ribs and both her legs were broken. Due to my serious injuries I stood in the hospital for 3 weeks and, I had to go to therapy for my legs. Even though I only broke one leg being that I was bed bound for 3 weeks without getting up, I sort of forgot how to walk. My doctor told me that I’d have to be in therapy for 3 months minimum, I can be there longer if it’s necessary. The main thing I thought about while I was going through this is “Who knew that once I took off my seat belt, I would get into a car crash?” I just kept thanking God for giving me a second chance at life because that car accident could’ve taken my life, and it could’ve taken my friends life as well. I thought about what if it was worse, besides death I could’ve been paralyzed, I could’ve suffered a major head injury and ended up brain dead, so many things happened to me but I feel like I got the minimum.

Even though it wasn’t a case where the driver was drinking and driving, I learned a lot. I learned that it doesn’t matter what it is, never take your seatbelt off because it can definitely wait. Even though I’m not at fault of the car accident, I could’ve kept my seatbelt on and waited till we stopped at the rest stop maybe my injuries would’ve been even more minor and I didn’t have to spend 6 months of my life trying to get better. Even though that wasn’t the case I still learned to appreciate life a lot more, and I definitely don’t regret what happened. Somethings are life lessons and the car accident was one of them. However, I learned something way deeper than that, I learned to be more appreciative of life, and to be more grateful for my life. I thank God every single day because I believe he’s the one who had his guardian angels over that car so nothing to major happened. I’m so grateful for my friends, especially the ones I went through that with because we kept each other strong. There was days where I was in that hospital bed, crying my life away because of what happened but, then I thought about how I was alive and my friends are alive too, and that kept me strong, that kept me going.

Nobody ever wants to have bad luck or bad news and, when something does happen, it's natural to focus at first on the worst aspects, such as pain, injury, financial loss, and other consequences. But if we can try to remember that sometimes there is an important message to be learned when you least expect to, we can take something away from these unhappy events, and turn them into meaningful lessons from which we can grow. As for me I took the car accident I experienced and, took in the negative things that happened to me but, I also embraced all my positive outcomes. I’m alive and healthy, I’m still able to walk and, I don’t have a limp to me walk. My friends are alive and healthy and, the car accident didn’t affect my chances of enlisting into the army. Everything happens for a reason, and, though you may not know the reason right then and there, you’ll eventually find out and, for the most part whatever did happen whether it’s good or bad, you’ll definitely learn from your experience.

The sky was nice and clear. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was perfect. It was a typical third grade day. My friends and I were in recess, goofing around, having fun. We sat on the benches and joked around. Next thing I knew my friend was on my back and I was carrying him around. Not aware of my surroundings, I tripped over a bench, closed my eyes, braced for impact, and fell face first into the dirt. I got up feeling dazed and the first thing I hear is a scream. Confused, I looked over to my friend and her face was a mixture of scared and shocked. I saw friends run to the restroom to get me paper towels, but others told me to go to the office. As I walked to the office, I began to feel pain in my lip. I walked into the office speechless.…

I snap back to reality and notice that my speedometer read 30 mph. I was in a 20 mph zone. I slam on the brakes to slow down. Behind me, a driver lays on his horn to tell me how irresponsible my last decision was. I reach for the radio and turn the tuner dial until I find something upbeat and groovy. As I remove my hand, I begin to hit on the steering wheel like a drum. The steering wheel is black and coverless. It sounds good when I hit it. It is also keeping me awake at the moment. My step mom sat next to me in the passenger’s seat messing around with her phone. She never pays attention to me when I’m driving. I see a curb on the next right turn I have to take. After running over the curb, my step mom glances up to make sure I did not hit anyone. When realizing that everything is fine, she goes back to Facebook on her phone. The darkness of night was exhausting. My eyes fluttered in the beams of the yellow street lights. In a couple of blocks, I make another right turn. Then a left turn into my driveway. I turn off the engine and let out a sigh of relief. I reach for my door handle and pull, eager to go to my bed. My legs wobble underneath me as I stumble out of the truck. I am finally…

I dropped my bike in my front yard and raced into the house. Calling for my mom and dad I suddenly realized that it was a weekday and they would be at work. Being that I was an only child, I was home alone. Quickly, I looked at the clock on the stove in the kitchen, it was 11:02 a.m.. They wouldn't be home for at least six more hours. I started panicking and thinking of all of the possibilities of what could’ve happened to me. Then I remembered my strange dream that I had when I fell off of my bike. Maybe what I thought was a dream was actually a reality. I needed some time to think and calm down so I went upstairs and into my bedroom. I jumped into my bed and tried to get some rest because I hadn’t slept that night due to my bike accident. My eyes were slowly closing more and more and I finally fell…

When I was four years old my parents bought me my first dirt bike. Riding dirt bikes has always been a part of my life. I started on a JR 50 and it’s a very small bike and after working my way up on bikes I'm now on a TTR 250. At first I was always scared to move on to a bigger bike, but I felt comfortable for the first time when I moved up to the TTR 250. Then a few years ago, I was outside riding my dirt bike and my family was watching me. I told them that I didn't need any gear on because I wasn't going to do anything dangerous and so I had no helmet on and no chest protector, I was only in a t-shirt and shorts. While I was on my bike I went to take off on a jump and when I did I hit my break right before I went off the jump because I had a moment of panic and hesitated. I was going too fast to stop right away, so I still went off the jump but landed sideways. Once I landed, the bike rolled three times and threw me off. I blacked out for a couple seconds and once I woke up, I was in so much pain and screaming for my…

One of my strengths is inquiring. I’m usually the one in a group questioning everything like “How did this happen?” or “What is the meaning of….” I also like to know a lot of information on a subject before I consider doing anything with it. I’m a very curious person and sometimes I’ll look at things from a different and new perspective to see what it’s like. I do this because I really enjoy seeing things from new different angles and comparing the two different point of views. This helps me better understand someone else’s view on something. For example if a friend and I are in an argument, I’ll try to wear their shoes and see their side. I also like to know why certain things have importance and value. I point out and question key facts and points to see why exactly it is of such significance.…

My friends and I were out riding around trying to decide if we wanted to go to Carowinds. I was driving too fast and jerking the wheel back and forth. I lost control of the car. The car ran off the edge of the road, and I hit a ditch damaging the left side of the car. The car then spun around and the right side of the car hit the ditch. The airbags popped out and hit me in the face. After we stopped spinning I asked my friends if they were ok. Fortunately, none of us got hurt. I had to call my parents and tell them that I wrecked the car. The police came and gave me a ticket and showed me at fault in the wreck. The wrecker picked up the car and took it to the body shop. The insurance adjuster looked at the car and said it was totaled. I had to wait a long time before my parents would even consider getting me another car. I had to go back to waiting for someone to pick me or asking somebody else for a ride. Although wrecking my car will always be an unpleasant memory of my first car, it taught me a valuable lesson about driving safely.…

It was the year 2008 and my friends and i where driving to Oceanside from San diego to go to an concert. It was my friends Candice, Karis, Moline, and Kayla. I had a bad feeling that we wouldn't make it to the concert. The Interstate 5 freeway was pack, bumper to bumper traffic. We were already near Mission Avenue, and the car in front of the car in front of us jammed their brakes which made the car in front of us take the only safe spot on the freeway, in front of us. Kayla had no time to respond and instantly her car plunged into the car in front of us which was an Electric blue PT Cruiser, which pushed that car into another car. The car started smoking profusely. I thought the car was going to blow up so I yelled “ Get out of the car it’s gonna blow up!!” At this point I was the most afraid because i was in the middle of karis and Moline, and they were taking forever to get out. After the girls got out of the car everyone began to panic. I thought to myself, Why is everyone panicking? I noticed Candice crying and yelling, its not moving , she was talking about her baby i also noticed some one was missing.
